About this session

Acknowledging the need to connect, we’ve designed the summit around interaction, with multiple opportunities to break out into small groups with other embodied carbon leaders. Detailed instructions will be distributed during the summit, but be prepared to use Discord and shared Google Documents.

Over the last two years, ILFI and the building industry have made tremendous strides in driving awareness and action in embodied carbon, highlighting its critical role in near-term climate action. But even with this momentum, how can we as owners and practitioners help scale the impact?

This next decade requires our community to take bold action -- to help develop embodied carbon literacy across the entire building industry and promote a compelling business case to drive private sector adoption. To support that mission, this online summit will take a deep dive into the current context of embodied carbon innovations -- projects, policies and tools -- and offer participants a platform to further engage in this sea of change.

Join industry leaders who will reveal how they are currently scaling embodied carbon work across their own organizations and what value propositions are driving their decision-makers to take action. Lessons learned will also be shared from current ILFI Zero Carbon projects at different scales that illuminate the challenges in data gathering and design strategies that are being overcome. Using ILFI’s dynamic online meeting platform, participants will be engaged to ask questions, share tools and solutions, connect to others and take on challenges to scale up their own action in embodied carbon.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Review the shared mission of expanding embodied carbon literacy and promoting the business case for broad private sector adoption
  • Understand how embodied carbon is addressed in ILFI certification programs and how current projects are using them to drive positive change Learn about industry trends and policies that can be leveraged to accelerate embodied carbon work
  • Discuss tools, methods and strategies for embodied carbon reduction that can be implemented broadly across an organization
  • Share examples of value propositions and the business case for embodied carbon that have been used to engage owners, investors and tenants in taking action
